The Bride Wore Black
The day would arrive when friends and family would witness the evolution of what their relationship had become after 5 years.
She wore black unlike brides before her. A meticulously adorned face with jewelry that could not match her exquisite beauty. The makeup almost angelic fit for the delicate princess everyone was there to see today. She lived in a world of perfection as counterfeit as the happiness she portrayed.
Memories recalled of the moment they met. Excitement filled the air and her heart. Undeniably, an insatiable love and passion was the glue cementing their union. Time, tolerance and forgiveness became allies while she endured the beautiful mess her lover had become during their time together. A dozen times she swore she’d leave but each time he found a reason for her to stay. Her rise and demise but even worse was the power of her love for him.
Did she do it for love or passion? The hold he had surpassed any sanity or reason. He understood her fears and insecurities using the weaknesses to built a moat around his territory.
On the eve of their wedding he stole her last breath leaving a white dress in red. Forcing a heavenly soul to wear black much too soon.
Stories of violence against women are rampant in our society. Nameless faces, untold stories in every corner of the world. We must spread the message persistently to our daughters, sisters, friends and all the women we come in contact with in our lives. Love does not hurt you. It does not strike, shove, insult or berate for any reason – it is wrong. No one has the right to abuse you physically, mentally or emotionally.
The abuse STOPS now.
